Blog the Change: Anything you do is good enough

You want to know the truth?

I don't care what you do.

Any single, small thing you are willing to do to help secure a better life for animals, be they companion, livestock or wild, is enough for me. Just do something.
  • Write a letter to your legislator about a law you'd like to see implemented or changed.
  • Buy an extra bag (or can) of food and donate it to your local pet food pantry.
  • Help sponsor the spaying or neutering of a companion animal waiting to be adopted at your local shelter.
  • Attend a local government meeting when animal issues are being discussed.
  • Help organize a bake sale, with proceeds to be donated to your local shelter.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your newspaper about the importance of spaying and neutering.
  • Thank a local restaurant for allowing dogs to sit on the patio with you.
  • Sponsor a tree to be planted at your local dog park.
  • If the animal cruelty laws aren't strong enough for your liking, help work to make them tougher.
  • Offer to help one of your local organizations, even if just for an afternoon.
  • Get a few friends together and start your own Operation Happy Sock.
  • Bake some dog treats and deliver them to your local shelter.
  • Bake some people treats and deliver them to your local shelter to thank the staff and volunteers for their work.
  • Add your signature to a petition here or here that addresses an animal issue about which you feel strongly.
  • Put a change jar at your desk or your business to collect funds to donate to your favorite local animal group.
See? I'm not picky at all.

"I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do."  ~Edward Everett Hale

Today is one of the four "Blog the Change" dates set aside each year for pet bloggers. Thanks to Be the Change for Animals and This One Wild Life for the inspiration. Check out what other bloggers are hoping to change:

I love your idea that whatever you do is fine. If we all something, however small is may be, it will add up to a great big something! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Vicky,

So many great ideas there, it makes so much sense just to do something, it doesn't have to be grand, it just has to be something.....:)

Thanks for looking out for us animals :)

These are all such important reminders- such a great list!

I really like the idea of saying "thank you" wherever possible- at the pet friendly restaurant or retail store... thanking people for standing up for animal rights... all of it.

Thank you!

Awesome ideas, all. I love the thought that it doesn't have to be something huge or time-consuming, it just has to be something with a lot of heart. Evemn the smallest gestures can make a big difference.

This is such a terrific reminder that it takes so little to make a difference. These small items on are huge when nobody else takes the time to do them and they can create far greater change when everybody does just a little.

Thanks so much for Blogging the Change!

Amen! The longest (and the shortest) journeys begin with just one step. Just do it!!!

Great list and reminder that it doesn't take a huge commitment to make a difference. I think we often stop ourselves from doing anything because we imagine it's going to grow out of control. Your list proves you can make a difference in an afternoon. Thanks!

Great list! It's important to combat the self-defeatist attitudes that small changes won't make a difference - because they do. And they often lead to bigger commitments.

I'm a big believer in the idea that if everyone does a little, we can all do a lot. My little match may not light the darkness, but I'm willing to bet 1,000 matches will throw a little light.

Every single thing we do, for good or bad, has the power to affect others. No act is too small, no effort is ever wasted.

Great post! ANYTHING is better than nothing, so I wholeheartedly agree with you. :-) If everyone did at least one small something, this world would be a better place for animals. And, I'd like to ad, even if you can't do something - Do no harm!

I love the fact that you kept it simple. Anything we do can make a huge difference. And sometimes that's just an encouraging word at the right time when others are in the thick of a desperate situation. I adore the photo you chose for today. I'm a bit of a photog and it put the biggest smile on my face. I hold paws with two of my girls frequesntly. :)

God bless and keep up the good work. Your blog is wonderful! And I've added my follow.

Perfect message...sometimes people get so overwhelmed that they think their actions won't make a difference! Every action no matter how small does have an impact!!

It's the little things that can make a difference. Every 1000 mile journey beings with just one step.

I love this post and absolutely agree with you. There are so many ways for people to help.

We were stunned to find out one of our local shelters were in desperate need of bath towels for puppies to snuggle in their kennel. Such an easy thing to donate!

I came to say thank you for the encouragement, Vicky.

Your ideas are great and I'm sure we all can easily do at least some of them. Here, we also take care of stray dogs when we can.

This is a really great post. We don't have a lot of extra money, but we bought a huge bag of kibble for a local shelter & are sponsoring the costs of a kitty.

It's so cool that we each CAN make a difference.
