And the verdict is...

Puppy Darby.
To those of you who were kind enough to extend warm wishes and drop me messages of concern, thank you so much. I truly appreciate it.

Darby was doing a fair bit better on Monday, so I decided not to jam up the vet’s phone at the crack of dawn and instead left a little space for one of the dozen or so folks who would undoubtedly be calling as well. We ended up heading over to the veterinary office on Tuesday morning for his visit.

The tentative diagnosis from the doctor is that he may have a tear in his ACL (which I doubt) and his kneecap is loose (which I don’t doubt) , which, if you’ve been around a while, is pretty much the exact same diagnosis we got last year at this time. Due to the level of Darby’s anxiety (which sounds much nicer than “spazziness”), he will need to be sedated and have x-rays taken to confirm.  The doctor also gave us pain meds so we can take some time to see if it stabilizes on its own with a little time and rest.

So, although we’re a bit bummed that we may have to wander this particular path again with the Doodlebug, we take care of our own and we’ll do what’s necessary to see to his care. Today I just thank the great dog in the sky that dogs only have two knees.

And I promise a nicer story coming up soon.

Poor little fuzzy man! Sorry about that dog-shaped hole in your bank account, too!

Thanks for the update. I'm hoping for good news and that Darby will be ok after all this, back to his spazzy self (which is always better than being a hurt doggie).

Poor Darby :( It's always so frustrating when they can't tell you immediately what's wrong. The anticipation and anxiety is always so hard to deal with. I'll have to look back at your previous posts to see what happened last year.

We're having our own worry-fest over here. Gus squealed when I picked him up today and has been walking around with his tail down. :( The vet thought he had a luxating patella last year and we're wondering if it's flared up.

Tummy rubs to Darby. We're thinking of all of you!

Sorry Darby that your leg is hurting you. Maybe the pain medicine will work and the rest too. Then you won't have to have surgery. We are sending woofs to ward off the surgery. You sure are a cute thing but it sounds like you are a little wild too. Take care and get better.

We're so sorry to read about Darby's knee! Man, we thought only the big guys had limping problems, but we're discovering otherwise. Hope the little guy's better soon!

Getting an x-ray to have an exact confirmation of what's going on is a good plan. One problem (such as luxating patella) can sometimes cause another, such as torn cruciate ligament.

But hopefully it's just the kneecap.

Fingers crossed (((hugs)))

We're purring and praying that Darby is all better soon. Poor little guy!

Thank you for your thoughtful comments when our sweet Maggie had to run off to the bridge. We love you guys, and are so thankful for you.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. Happily, I'm able to report that the Doodlebug has improved tremendously with the medication given to him by his doctor and it looks like we can move surgery to the back burner for the time being. We'll take whatever reprieve we can get for now.
